This idea was inspired by a dear friend who is writing a witty, insightful, inspirational blog about getting her body back after having two kids. Originally, I started with the idea of accomplishing a press-handstand in 365 days. However, it's turned into so much more than that. It's really about my journey back from chronic fatigue syndrome, regaining strength and flexibility that I once had as a gymnast, and my journey back to ironman fitness (and more importantly, the life lessons I'm learning along the way).

6/30/13: Day 1

Why? Why a press handstand? And why 365 days? Well, the press handstand is a skill that always eluded me in gymnastics. I was strong, I was flexible, and don’t get me wrong, I was very, very close to having this skill.  But I never quite got it. I mean a true press handstand-from the floor. Why now? Well, I want to improve my strength. I was undoubtedly at my strongest when I was in gymnastics. I want some of that back. Heck, maybe I want all of it back. If you think of the muscles it takes to do a press handstand… holy crap. Well, that will take some research on my part, too. This will make me smarter. Which muscles do I need to build in order to do a press handstand? And why 365 days? I don’t know… The task seems manageable if I break it down into 365 days. If I really focus on something for 365 days, I should be able to figure it out, right? Granted, I was a gymnast for 15 years (or 5,475 days) and wasn’t able to do it. But I was basically able to do. And if I really focus my intention and energy on it for 365 days, I can do it, right? Or at least hopefully I can do it part way (like from my toes). If not, then the worst outcome will be that I got stronger in the process. If I do it, then awesome. Or maybe, just maybe, I can do it sooner than 365 days. Who knows? Well, day one, I watched a tutorial on how to do a press handstand. Unfortunately, no new information there. I did one, 30 second handstand against the wall. I’ve got to start somewhere and since I’m no longer as comfortable standing on my hands as I am on my feet, I’ll start by getting used to the handstand again.
